Qld: Few farmers insured for storm damage to crops: ICA
The Insurance Council of Australia says many farms hit by fierce storms which havelashed southeast Queensland this week have no insurance for crop loss.
The Council's Queensland manager, GRAHAM JONES, says although some wheat crops areinsured against hail damage, very few other crops are covered.
Farmers in the Brisbane Valley, west of Brisbane, have reported crop damage, with onefarm losing an entire field of watermelons, due to be picked on Boxing Day.
Damage to citrus trees has also been reported at Mundubbera, west of Maryborough.
Mr JONES says damage to homes and cars will cost insurers millions of dollars.
Emergency services workers have reported damage to more than 100 homes during the storms, with uprooted trees slamming into homes and houses losing roofs in high winds.
The storms lashed southeast Queensland three days in a row, starting on Christmas Eve.
