BOMB CASE SECRECY ADDS TO SUSPICIONS.(CAPITAL REGION)

Reporters tend to be suspicious and nosy. That's the way we are.

Cops tend to be suspicious and secretive. That's the way they are.

Sometimes, when we deal with one another, this slight but significant difference in perspective can present a huge problem. Take, for instance, this crazy bombing case in Clifton Park last Christmas Eve.

Jude and Mary Reardon had returned to home to find a package addressed to them in their mailbox. When their 10-year-old daughter, Jordan, opened the thing on the kitchen table, it blew up.

Luckily, the bomb had exploded imperfectly, and the girl wasn't badly hurt. The State Police and the U.S. Bureau or Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms launched a huge investigation. The result was a press conference on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
