NSW: Man loved defacto despite ramming antenna into her skull

A judge in New South Wales says a man who murdered his de facto wife by ramming a televisionantenna into her skull was not abusive, and truly loved her.

VAN TEO CAO was found guilty on July 18 of murdering 25-year-old KAROLINA ZIZIUS attheir southwestern suburban Villawood flat in May 2001.

He was sentenced in the NSW Supreme Court today to 15 years' jail with a non-paroleperiod of 10 years and six months.

CAO said Ms ZIZIUS had thrown the aerial at him during an argument because she couldn'tget any heroin and was upset that he'd gone to the markets without her.

But Justice DAVID KIRBY said he was convinced that 47-year-old CAO loved the womanhe'd taken into his flat when she was kicked out of her home, and tried to help her overcomea heroin addiction.
