NSW:Up to 1,000 turn out to bid Glenn farewell

Up to 1,000 people have attended the funeral for murdered Sydney policeman GLENN MCENALLAY.

Police officers lined both sides of the driveway and saluted as his casket was carriedby his colleagues into St John's Anglican Church at Taree, in northern New South Wales.

More than 400 police from around the country and hundreds of family friends and membersof the public filled the church and spilled onto the grounds and into a nearby hall wherethe service was broadcast.

Among the mourners was police Commissioner PETER RYAN, who's described Senior ConstableMCENALLY as a meticulous, determined and enthusiastic officer with a great sense of dutyto the public.

Inside the church, Constable MCENALLAY's girlfriend AMANDA laid a single red rose onhis coffin next to a picture of herself and GLENN.

The 26-year-old was shot and mortally wounded last month while following a suspectedstolen car in Hillsdale in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

He never regained consciousness and died on April 3 after six days on life support.
