Fed: 'We have no control' over Bashir's death row tour: Keelty

CANBERRA, Dec 17 AAP - The visit of a prominent radical Islamic cleric to three Bali
bombers awaiting execution is something Australia has no control over, federal police
commissioner Mick Keelty says.

Over the weekend Abu Bakar Bashir visited bombers Amrozi, his former student Mukhlas
and Imam Samudra in Batu Prison on Nusakambangan Island, known as Indonesia's Alcatraz,
off central Java.

Mr Keelty said despite the outrage from survivors of the bombing, there was nothing
Australia could do.

"Whilst it's not something we would encourage, it's certainly something over which
we have no control," Mr Keelty told the Nine Network today.

He warned Australians not to be judgmental about the decision to allow Bashir visiting rights.

"Many people would be, I guess, surprised at who makes visits to people in custody
in our own country."
