Sonomic (www.sonomic.com), home to the largest online stock audio library, today announced the completion of its $1.5 million initial round of financing by New York City-based venture group B2B-Hive. The funding is being used to develop Sonomic's online stock audio library, which the company will officially launch in early January. At launch, Sonomic will be the largest online distributor of samples and sound FX for the music, film, television, advertising, video game and new media industries.
"The formal launch of Sonomic in early 2001 will signal a new era in audio production," said Sonomic co-founder and COO Douglas Price. "During the next few months, we will be making a series of announcements that will demonstrate our strength in the stock audio industry and our commitment to providing a product that will be integral to the audio production process."
With its unique "Search - Preview - Download(TM)" functionality, Sonomic will eliminate time consuming manual searches, delivering exactly the sounds producers need and maximizing overall production efficiency. Using any Internet-connected computer, users will be able to instantly search Sonomic's vast sound library by category or keyword. All search results can then be previewed in high-quality audio streams, ensuring that users always get exactly the sounds they need. Sounds will be available for immediate download and use in any type of audio, video or multimedia production.
"Sonomic is taking the next logical step in the evolution of stock audio distribution," said Sonomic co-founder and CEO Adam Strauss. "Currently, if a producer needs a particular sound in the middle of a session, he has to manually search through stacks of CDs in his personal library, or run out to a specialty store and spend upwards of $100 on a stock audio CD just to get that sound. Sonomic will eliminate this waste of time and money by delivering exactly the sounds producers need, right into their workstations."
Sam Alfstad, co-founder and partner of B2B-Hive, commented, "Close parallels can be drawn between the stock audio and stock image industries. The leading supplier of stock images currently distributes less than two percent of their library online, yet nearly thirty-five percent of their revenues are derived from online sales." Mr. Alfstad added, "Unlike industries that have struggled to make online models work, Internet distribution offers proven advantages for the stock audio and image industries. We firmly believe Sonomic is bringing a valuable product to the right market, at the right time and with the right management team. At a time when venture capitalists are making fewer investments in new early stage businesses, the closing of this first round sends a powerful message that this is a company to watch closely."
